Egogram test · 50 questions · 5 steps
What is an egogram?
Transactional Analysis (TA) divides the mind into five states. Borrowing that framework, this test is a self-check game
that looks at how high or low your five states are, using 50 questions written by this site.
It is not a standardised psychological test.
Combining high, medium and low across the five states, it shows you one of 243 results.
A self-check borrowing the egogram framework from Transactional Analysis. Five ego states, CP (critical parent), NP (nurturing parent), A (adult), FC (free child) and AC (adapted child), are each measured with 10 items, and the high/medium/low combination across the five axes (243 possibilities) describes your tendencies. For self-understanding, reviewing relationship patterns, or previewing counselling coursework.
Five pages of 10 items, 50 in all, answered 'yes 2 · somewhat 1 · no 0'. Each axis scores 0–20: 7 or below is low (c), 8–13 medium (b), 14 or above high (a). The five grades joined in the order CP·NP·A·FC·AC form a code such as abbca, which is the result page. For example, CP 15, NP 10, A 9, FC 5 and AC 16 give a·b·b·c·a, which opens the 'principled harmoniser' result. The result page shows a grade badge for each axis, a summary based on your highest and lowest axes, a note on each of the five axes, and tips for getting along with this type. All items and descriptions were written for this site.
Eric Berne's Transactional Analysis divides ego states into Parent, Adult and Child, and John Dusay drew them as a five-bar chart, the egogram. It is widely used in counselling and training.
No. Standardised egogram instruments have validated items and norms; this tool is a self-check game built on 50 items written for this site, not copied from any published instrument.
Each of five axes is high, medium or low, giving 3⁵ = 243 combinations.
Scores are carried in the page address (URL) from one page to the next; nothing is stored on a server.
A tool for fun and self-understanding, not a psychological test or diagnosis.
